Brother HL 2040 – Makes for A Distinguished Printer

Size and type options: The printer is a little fussy when it comes to certain paper types and sizes. It will accept standard, legal, letter, A4 and special sizes. However large quantities of any type or size will have to be manually fed for example envelopes. The paper tray is rather clever in that it will not allow you to load any thick media. Look for Brother HL 2040 toner cartridge.

Paper options: A variety of paper options are compatible with the printer including standard, legal, letter, A4 and special sizes. Some paper types will have to be hand fed, one at a time if larger sized media such as envelopes or legal. You will immediately know if the media is too thick as the main drawer will not allow you to load it or closing.

User-friendly Panel: The Brother HL 2040 Printer control panel easy to understand with only a couple of warning light- three to be exactly and only one button to start printing under various conditions such as waking, error clearing, general start-up and cancelling. Your computer will be the main printer control as the software provides for handling different operation situations from you computer instead of the printer itself.

User manual: The overall look of the user manual is dull. However the instructions for setting up your printer is well written and illustrated. You will have to ignore the other same-priced Brother printer installation instructions as they are also included in the booklet. The manual can also be printed from the software CD-ROM in PDF. It also doesn’t mention Brother toner.

No upgrading: Unfortunately, the printer does not come with optional extra’s to invest in. What you see is what you get. If you want to print more than 250 pages or do double printing rather opt for another model as trays are not sold separately.

Forget upgrades: If you love adding and upgrading your printers avoid this one, as no accessories are available. You will have to be satisfied with what you see and get. If double printing be required or print quantity increase you will have to borrow the neighbours’ printer as you will not be able to add another tray. If you foresee any such event rather buy another model printer.

Ports: The printer is chop-chop connected to your computer via USB or Parallel ports. Ethernet as well as wireless are unfortunately not available with this model or as upgrade.
