Samsung ML 1250 – The Proficient Small Business Printer

Utilizing the Samsung ML 1250 printer and Samsung ML 1250 Toner is a simple enough assignment. After all, the unit is made to work together to provide good mono laser printer output for a single desktop or laptop PC or Mac. In this regard, it provides sufficient performance and printing capabilities suitable for just about any print job in the home or very small office environment.

Hooking the printer to a computer is fairly straightforward. The ML 1250 comes with standard USB and parallel printer ports, which gives it adequate flexibility. There is no Base-TX 10/100 Ethernet or modern 801.11 wireless functionality, but it probably isn’t needed for most printer-to-single-computer situations. The unit doesn’t come with a USB or serial cable, so keep that mind when purchasing.

Printer speed comes in at around 12ppm, which is good enough for this sort of printer. A plus is that it also has a fine 1200dpi print resolution, which can be scaled down to 300dpi, if extreme sharpness is not a requirement for the print job in question. 1200dpi is double the resolution of the printer in the line-up it’s replacing. As usual, print output speeds will vary by the job, in keeping with the graphics or text richness inherent within the task job.

The Samsung is provided with a standard 4MB of installed memory, and is upgradeable to 68MB. This will allow the printer to handle just about any print job needed of it, including graphics-heavy posters and transparencies. It’s also a more energy-efficient model than the one it’s replacing, which should make those wanting to be a bit more ‘green’ a little happier.

As far as working with various operating systems, the Samsung can handle most Windows and Mac versions, plus the Linux platform. This gives it good adaptability, for the most part. Paper is handled in this unit via a cassette on the top, which holds up to 150 sheets, making it resemble a fax or old-style inkjet print unit. The upside is that it’s lightweight and can be moved around with ease.

The printer’s control panel is very user-friendly and intuitive to handle. One of the buttons is a Toner Save function, which can help to cut down on the rate of toner usage when resolution and extreme darkness of the print is not that much of a concern. This makes for a good, cost-saving measure.

The Samsung toner cartridge is good for about 2,500 pages before needing replacement. If just pages of text are printed, the unit should deliver on that promised number. If graphics-heavy jobs are the norm, then expect the toner to deliver less capacity.
