Six Sigma and Software Implementation Projects

Software implementation projects are difficult on a regular basis, recurring client problems and schedule overruns are the two main issues. If Six Sigma methods are used by the software company during the implementation stage at the customer’s site, the problems can be wiped out.

There are two specific problems that are most likely to occur during software implementation projects, within the categories mentioned above. These are customer requirement problems and schedule estimation problems. With the use of Six Sigma concepts during the projects, professionals will be able to better understand the needs and the business objectives of the client.

Customers want a new software product to increase effectiveness for a business purpose within the company goals. During the implementation of the new software is usually the start of the problems. The customer becomes aware that the objectives are not going to be met by the new software.

In order to facilitate software implementation project success, Six Sigma concepts bridge the gap between the client and the developer when it comes to needs communication. The success of this idea is evidenced by software companies which have used Six Sigma concepts successfully insofar as solving qualitative problems arising from software implementation projects.

Time scheduling estimation is the next problem. There can be no maladjustment errors here or the whole process may be at issue. Six Sigma is helpful here, if it’s concepts are used when scheduling the specialists are able to be inclusive of multiple factors which would affect the project. Efficiency charts are created then based on the clients history.
