How to Wear a Tuxedo if You’re Tall and Skinny

These days there’s no reason why a skinny man should appear tall and skinny when wearing a tuxedo. If you are tall. It’s very easy to dress incorrectly and look scruffy or shabby. There are a few basic golden rules to follow which will ensure you never make that mistake and enhance, not highlight your appearance.

Modern fashion trends change all the time, and because tuxedos are fairly expensive, it’ll be difficult to have something that’s up-to-date. Instead, think classic fashion, and eschew off the peg tuxedos for something that’s made to measure; it will fit correctly and last a lifetime since it isn’t made for just the current trends.

The most important thing however is to be feeling comfortable with your attire. If you purchase off the peg and your suit is ill fitting you’ll be very aware of this fact and you will not be relaxed at all.

Heavier fabric, such as wool, looks great on thinner men because it adds bulk all around. Heavy men avoid them for good reason, but these kinds of fabrics in a tuxedo made to order will keep your frame from looking too delicate.

Because black has a slimming effect, which women use to their advantage, it’s best to avoid dark-colored suits. Lighter tones will add the appearance of weight and bulk.

Another well-known fact is that vertical stripes make you look skinny so make sure you don’t start thinking how wonderful pinstripe tuxedo’s look. If you don’t wish to buy a plain tuxedo opt for one with a pattern or a check.

When getting your tuxedo made, make sure the fit is perfect. This is the major reason to avoid off the peg tuxedos, but even with custom made ones, it is important to make sure the tuxedo is not too loose (it will hang off your frame) or too tight; in either case it’ll over-emphasize your smaller frame.

Finally, avoid having shoulder pads fitted in your tuxedo jacket. This is just one more thing that will serve to highlight the rest of the body being much smaller by comparison. And this will be certain to make you look like a skinny man.
