Human Respiratory Organs

Human being have lungs for respiration. So respiration in human beings is know as pulmonary respiration.Respiratory organs are well developed in human being.The respiratory system consists of repiratory tract and respiratory organs.The repiratory tract is passage along whcih air travels from the atmosphere in order to reach lungs.

The nasal cavaty:- Nasal cavity lies above the mouth cavity. Tye nasal cavity communicate to the outside through external nostrils and internally with the pharynx by internal nostrils. Both cilia and mucus check the entry of dust particles in the respiratory passage.

The Pharynx: The pharynx is the next stop for air after the nasal cavity. The glottis is the mechanism by which the pharynx opens into the larynx or voice box. The glottis also serves another important purpose. Because the digestive and respiratory tract both share the pharynx, the glottis is covered by the leaf like cartilage epiglottis when we swallow food, which prevents food getting into the respiratory system.

The Larynx. The Larynx is a cartilagious structure located at the tracheal opening that resembles a box. When we swallow food, the larynx will move up or down to allow the passage of either air or food. The larynx also serves another purpose, as it contains two vocal chords to vibrate and produce sound, allowing us to speak.

Trachea:- Larynx is followed by trachea.It is tube about eleven centimeter in length and twenty five centimeter in diameter. Its wall is provided with incomplete C-shape cartiligious ring which keep the trachea in dilated position and prevent it from collapsing.

The Bronchi and Bronchioles: At the lower end of the trachea, are the two primary bronchi. These bronchi lead to the lungs, both to the right and left side. The right bronchus is split into three bronchi that extend separately into the three lobes of the right lung. In a complimentary fashion, the left bronchi splits into two bronchi that connect to the two lobes of the left lung.

Lungs:- There are two lungs in the thoracic cavity.The thoracic cavaty is bounded by vertebral coloumn arrives sternum and diaphragm.The lungs are highly elastic hollow dark coloured spongi bag like structure. The lungs rest on a sheet of muscle called the diaphragm which forms the floor of the thoracic.

The lungs are probably one of the most complex organs in the respiratory tract, with the right lung divided into three lobes and the left lung divided into two. The lungs are enclosed by the pleural cavity, which is itself surrounded by two membranes that secrete an oily matter called pleural fluid, which permeates the Pleural cavity.
