Talent Assessment can help employers find good leadership qualities among the many applicants for a job. to find future leaders? If a company has several senior managers ready for retirement over the next few years, and the company has very few potential leaders to replace them, then the organization may turn to recent college graduates or recruiting firms for the future leaders it needs. However, the organization may see a deficit in available leaders and may want to recruit possible leaders among graduating college seniors or recent college graduates. One of the best tools to determine future leaders is a talent assessment.
An organization may be in the process of upgrading or revamping an existing company-sponored leadership training progam. As the leadership training committee maps out a plan to find likely candidates for training, they can also develop their ownassessment and interview process. The talent portion of the assessment can be directed toward the twelve traits found in good leaders.
There are twelve indicators of a good leader that can be determined thorugh a Psychometric Assessment:
1. Carefulness. A good leader plans and thinks carefully before he speaks or acts.
2. Cooperation. A leader is likeable and congenial in all of his interpersonal relationships.
3. Creativity – the ability and willingness to think “outside the box”.
4. Discipline – a willingness to being responsible and dependable
5. Goodwill – the ability to think well of other’s intentions and forgive
6. Influence. A leader has the ability to impress others because he communicates his thoughts without hesitation.
7. Optimism. A leader believes in successful outcomes.
8. Order. Organization and neatness comes naturally to a leader.
9. Savvy. A leader is skilled at reading people and can detect hidden needs and intentions.
10. Sociability. A leader enjoys people whether he is at work, at home, or in social events.
11. Stability – calm and rational no matter what the circumstances are
12. Striving. A leader is able to push hard and work hard towards goals.
There are more than enough assessments in the marketplace to choose from. Employers may also wish to develop their own assessment the is customized to their particular organization. The best advice would be to compare several assessments to get a feel of the questions asked and what report one can expect to get before finalizing a decision. A company may want to view and compare several assessments before finalizng their choice. The talent assessment can save a company a lot of time and money by recognizing leadership potential in job applicants at the time of hiring. Most companies’ managers are approaching retirement and will need to be replaced in the coming years. Hiring talented leaders today can help ease the transitions needed in the future.
