Health and Fitness Promotional Success

Working in the health and fitness industry can be very rewarding. One of the most rewarding parts can be the potential for a lucrative income, but beyond that helping others reach their fitness and health goals can be a reward well beyond the money. The challenge is that launching this type of business can be slow.

As with any other business venture, success will often be based on how well your marketing strategies are devised. With health and fitness, marketing takes on a number of additional dimensions. That is, it is just not enough to offer deals and discounts. The marketing of a health and fitness business needs to truly get to the heart of the reason why people look for a personal trainer.

While improved health is a major component to engaging in exercise, it is generally not the main reason why people seek a personal trainer. The vast majority of people are, instead, looking to improve their looks. They want to look better, sexier, and more desirably. The enhanced health benefits are an added plus. That is why the proprietor of a fitness business needs to promote the vanity benefits of the business when creating a marketing plan.

That means the positive aspects of joining a fitness center or working with a personal trainer should be stressed significantly. Far too often, fear and negativity is used to promote a business. Usually, this is done in a completely unintentional manner. But, the language used in promotional campaigns is so negative that it undermines the campaign. For example, an advertising tag line such as “Don’t let yourself be too embarrassed to go to the beach this summer! Get in shape with us!” is an outright disastrous sentiment. It simply makes people feel unhappy about themselves.

Instead, an ad campaign based around sentiments such as “Look your best this summer!” or “The perfect exercise program will be tailored so you look your best!” all express positive sentiments. As such, people would be more willing to become involved with such an upbeat service. It just makes them feel good.

There is more than just making people feel good. Looking good is the biggest benefit. When you focus on how people will look, you’ll get better results. Again, stress the positive results and avoid calling attention to anything negative

When you appeal to vanity, you are not appealing to any banal or base sentiments. You are appealing to a sincere desire on many people’s part to look their very best. People do take pride in their appearance and often want to improve it. Unfortunately, incorrect diet and exercise choices may undermine this. This is where the fitness professional comes in. He or she helps the individual achieve their true potential.

Stressing the benefits of working with a fitness professional should always appeal to the inherent vanity in people. People want to look their best. Let them know you will help them achieve these goals and you will find your advertising working wonders for your business.
