Home Internet Business Strategies From Ricky Nelson

I believe its a waste of time thinking all day about what you want to do. I would much rather go ahead and do it, mess it up a little bit and figure it out along the way. This would be perfect if I was “thick skinned” when it comes to criticism. However, I will admit it does get under my skin at times.

I am also not the type of person who likes to get in other peoples business. If they want to know what I think about something, I will let them know. If they need my advice on something, I will tell them but I do not give it unsolicited.

That being said there are a lot of people who have no problem with sharing their opinion, solicited or unsolicited. If you do things in a public light, many people will have their opinions about what you do and how you do it. This certainly applies if you are running a home internet business.

As the owner of a home internet business, you can expect to receive a ton of unsolicited emails from people trying to help you correct your “mistakes”. They have no problems with telling you what they do not like and they assume that what they do not like others do not like it either. In fact, they will even believe that you have some type of “hidden agenda” with anything that you do.

It is hilarious to read an email that is 2-3 pages long from a stranger as to why I am doing what I am doing. The type of insight that these people must have is truly amazing that they can read my mind. I wish I could read minds like that!

As a child, there was a great song that I used to listen to by Ricky Nelson. Rickys parents were Ozzie and Harriet. Originally he did a lot of music in the style of those malt shop songs from the 50s, but he eventually shifted directions. In 1971 (October to be exact) he ended up doing a Rock ‘n Roll show at Madison Square Garden. However, he now had long hair, bell bottom pants and did a completely different style of music.

Unfortunately for Ricky, the crowd didnt appreciate these changes and halfway through the show he was literally booed off the stage. After the show, Ricky wrote down how he felt using the following lyrics:

“I went to a Garden Party, to reminisce with my old friends, a chance to share some memories, and play our songs again.

When I got to the Garden Party, they all knew my name, but no one heard the music- I didn’t look the same.

But it’s all right now. I learned my lesson well. You see you can’t please everyone so you gotta please yourself.”

Ricky later entitled these lyrics “Garden Party” and it became one of his best selling songs in his career. Even though he went against what the crowd felt he should be doing, he ended up being better for it in the end.

Ricky’s song points out a very important lesson in running legitimate home businesses. That lesson is “you can’t please everyone, so you gotta please yourself.” I would add you also “gotta please The Lord” as well.

Always remember in the words of Jean Sibelius “there has never been a statue built for critics.” If your critics had a real home internet business they would not have time to criticize you anyway! Do not let them get you down.
