ElkFest at Wyoming

On May 16 and May 17, 2009 the 42nd Annual Elkfest will be held. The Jackson Hole Chamber of Commerce will be sponsoring this event. While the Elkfest is being held there will also be a 42nd annual world famous Jackson Hole Boy Scout Elk Antler Auction event. When you join this event you will get to enjoy the outdoors and try out your outdoors skills.

Around spring time the elks from the National Elk Refuge will make their annual trip to their summer refuge. But before they make this trip the elks will loose their antlers. These antlers will then be gathered by a group of Boy Scouts and Refuge staff. After that is done the antlers will be auctioned off.

Craft makers from all over the country will be at the antlers auction. The auction does not only gather craft makers but also visitors from all over the country will join the event. The craft makers that will purchase these antlers will use the antlers to make furniture, wall decorations, jewelry and food products.

There will be other activities beside the auction of the antlers that will be held all through out the weekend. The other activities were Chili Cook-Off with live band performances and the kick-off of a Mountain Man Rendezvous & an Antler Rendezvous. The promoters of this event will be donating 80% of the proceeds to the winter feeding program on the National Elk Refuge.

The National Elk Refuge is the great venue to celebrate the beauty of nature. You will get to see beautiful nature could be especially when watching the elk while you are riding the horse driven sleigh. The visit the Jackson Hole Greater Yellowstone Visitor Center to know more about the elks and its history.

The Elkfest officially open on May 16 from 7:00 A.M. to 7:00 P.M. You can enjoy different activities ranging from live band performance to antlers auctions. Then from 9:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. there will be the Mountain Man Rendezvous and Traders Row. From May 17 to May 25 the Antler Rendezvous will be held from 9:00A.M. to 6:00 P.M. On May 18 the Historic Downtown High Noon Chili Cook-Off will start at 12:00 Noon.
