For a small business, losing the data stored on the servers or in the computers of your employees may equal a real disaster. Large companies usually have a backup policy in place, but most of the times, small companies don’t. Unfortunately, this is why sometimes they have to face important losses of information which may cost them the whole business. This is what data recovery services are for.

There are various reasons why the files on a hard disk can be lost or corrupted. The hard drive crash is only one of these possible causes. Other frequent ones are: accidental deletion, accidental format, operating system failure, or physical damage of the disk such as floods, fire or dropping from a big height.

In case disk data appears to be corrupt or missing, it is crucial that you shut down immediately that computer and call the data recovery service specialists. They can assess the damage and give you advice on the next steps you need to do in order to see your data back again. If not, you risk a permanent loss.

Never download or buy data recovery software in order to try to retrieve your data without help. You may not succeed in your enterprise and you can kiss your data goodbye. It is wiser not to do that, because you can’t know what happened and if you are doing more harm than good with that software.

Data loss is very frequent in all kinds of magnetic storage devices, from CDs to DVDs, USB drives or even memory cards. This is why backups need to be done and safe copies of every such drive must be kept and refreshed from time to time.

If your computer’s hard disk makes an unusual noise in operation, this may be a sign that it will soon crash. A hardware recovery cannot be done at home, so you’ll need to go to a disaster recovery company. They work in clean rooms, which are protected from dust or other particles that may cause definitive damage to a hard drive.

If you have an array of RAID servers, you should know that they are also exposed to losses of data. RAID retrieval attempts require physical interventions, which should be performed in very clean, controlled spaces. This is why you need the services of a data recovery company.

Mozy Pro is the online backup solution offered by Mozy that is designed for the needs of small and medium businesses. This Mozy Pro review evaluates the features of the service, its advantages, and the areas where it can do better.

Features of Mozy Pro

Mozy Pro, typically named ‘Pro’ as are many apps that are geared toward businesses, is the professional version of Mozy Home. Mozy Pro includes all the features of Mozy Home in addition to more advanced features in support of office managers, IT professionals and businesses. A license is needed for every computer that is backed up. It can be either a desktop license at a cost of $3.95 plus $0.50/GB per month, or you can get a server license if you have servers that need to be backed up. Those cost $6.95/month with the same GB charge.

The server license comes with a higher price tag than the desktop license because it already includes Microsoft Windows Server OS support, network share support, and backup & restore of Exchange and SQL, among others. The Mozy system utilizes a secure 128-bit SSL encryption during the backing up process and 448-bit Blowfish encryption or 256-bit AES encryption while your files are in storage.

Advantages

Mozy Pro is a very affordable solution for both desktop and server backup. The services offered are secure and comprehensive, and something most businesses cannot do without.

Even if security is the main priority for Mozy Pro, the online backup package was specifically designed to ensure ease of use. Mozy Pro service can support both Windows and Mac versions, and enables the user to set it either on automatic mode or scheduled backup mode.

Mozy Pro also backs up and restores all types of data files on practically any software or database in your computer – Exchange, SQL, and those in network drives. Plus, it comes with advanced administrative features which is ideal for a multi-user business set-up.

Disadvantages

There have been some negative reports about Mozy Pro. Some users have reported that technical support can be slow and sometimes unhelpful. Also, reports of difficulty connecting to the Mozy servers have been reported. Some say their software seems to be somewhat buggy and inconsistent.

Another complaint found in the reviews of Mozy Pro deals with the fact that, when the backup quota is attained the backup fails. In order to be sure that the data has been properly stored, users should regularly check its status. This is sometimes an inconvenient situation for some users.

Finally, even if the restore function is reliable, the restore process can last up to 24 hours. And the time needed for Mozy Pro to retrieve the data can also take some time. Therefore, businesses that require fast data restoring could encounter problems and delays concerning this matter.

Summary for Mozy Pro Review

On the whole, while this service isn’t perfect it is a secure and an affordable solution for small and medium businesses. The other benefit is that a business can be up and running with the service almost immediately. So for businesses without IT departments or those that just want a simple online backup solution, Mozy Pro is certainly worth consideration. And since they offer month-to-month plans, businesses can test the service without committing to a long-term contract.

Any business owner will tell you that backing up is one of the most vital things that you can do to keep your business up and running. After all, you simply cannot predict when things will go wrong with your computer system. One of your staff might delete files by mistake, you could experience problems after a power cut or a key component of your system could fail and see you lose access to all of your company data.

The problem here is that most business nowadays really do rely on their systems to actually operate. Take all of the data you have stored on your computer system away, even for a few days or hours, and the chances are that your business will suffer.

One of the more recent innovations in the back up sector is the online back up. In the past businesses often made a physical back up where they ran a solution overnight on to hard copy tapes and then stored the tapes off site for safety. Whilst this offers a viable back up solution it is not necessarily the quickest way to restore data as tapes will have to be accessed and set up before your business can get going again.

Online back ups simply take away a lot of the actual hassle and time constraints that come with these older back up methods. Here, your data is backed up online rather than placed on to a physical storage medium. You decide when the back up will happen and then it happens automatically from that point onwards.

This also allows you to change schedule as you like with no major effort. So, for example, if your data changes considerably and you want it stored you can click a button for an extra back up to give you additional protection. In most cases, every time you back up online the company that you use will send you a report which also makes it a lot easier to work out what you have backed up and what you don’t.

This can be a much easier way of making sure that your data remains safe. And, if the worst comes to the worst and you need data recovery then getting your data back is real easy too. Restoring online back ups often simply involves logging into your account management site and pressing a button to get your data back. You can choose whether to restore your entire back up or just elements of it which can also be real useful.

Many businesses find that this is an extremely cost effective way of backing up as your ‘physical costs’ are kept low. Do look for online back up companies that use encryption to protect your back up data, however, as this will give you added security especially if your data is business critical and you do not want it falling into the wrong hands.

It is also wise to pick an online back up company that stores your data on a variety of servers in different locations rather than just one server in one place. This gives you the additional peace of mind of knowing that your data can be accessed whenever you want.

by Richard Sachs

If you lose data or have problems accessing it then you may need to call upon some form of data recovery solution to help you out. The type of solution that you choose will usually depend on the problem that caused your data loss in the first place.

In some instances you may be able to sort out this kind of problem for yourself. An accidentally deleted file, for example, may simply have been deleted to your Recycle Bin on your desktop from which point you can restore it with just a mouse click.

Even if your file has gone beyond a simple Recycle Bin solution you may still be able to get it back after deletion. Deleting a file on a computer usually just removes the links that you use to access it and there are many different types of data recovery software that you can buy or find free on the Internet that could help you out here.

If, however, you have a more complex data loss problem then you may need to call in the services of a computer technician or a specific data recovery firm. These experts offer a wide range of different solutions for all kinds of data loss problems.

So, for example, services here could include dealing with physical or accidental damage to hard drives and to computers themselves. This can be a good option if your hard drive stops working or develops a problem or even if you accidentally spill water on to your PC unit.

Other options here usually include solutions for other damaged or corrupted tape drives, storage media and problems associated with viruses. Many companies will work with both individual computer owners and with businesses although some larger concerns may only get involved with company issues.

There are various ways that data recovery experts can get your data back and/or restore your computer to full working order. In some cases, for example, they can use specialist software fixes that find and solve the problem. This may well leave your existing storage media intact or it may involve using new ones and transferring your old data on to them.

If a software fix is not the answer then your computer expert may need to physically work on the damaged component in question. In most cases this will involve them removing your machine to their lab although some computer technicians may prefer to work on site.

They may well be able to repair the problem at source but may also need to replace key components once again to restore your computer. You may not actually know what the outcome will be here until a technician has had a chance to look at your problem and to give a diagnosis.

Do try to make sure that you find a data recovery service that has the experience and know-how to work on your machine. Check that they seem to understand what the problem could be and ask them if they have worked on this kind of problem before. The more experienced a technician is here, the better chance you have of getting your data back quickly and successfully.

Can’t stand working on your computer because of some freezes, hardware malfunctions, slow windows start ups, computer error messages, system32 error messages, indications of a possible system crash and other related problems it has been showing? If so, then maybe it’s now time for you to consider a registry cleaner. Why? Well, it’s because everything that you are experiencing has nothing to do with anything else but with your registry alone.

Nevertheless, there are some errors and corrupt files in your Windows registry that compromise the integrity and performance of your computer. Be aware that failure to fix these errors and corrupt files will give unlikely results and may later turn your computer useless by all means. Thus, to save yourself from headache of getting a new computer, get a registry cleaner now!

Which One?

There are many registry cleaners now made available on the market. Therefore, the big question for you now will be – which one will be perfect for your needs?

Well, below we have a brief yet in-depth review of the top three registry cleaners on the market. This may help you in deciding which registry cleaner to get.

#1: RegDefense

All the registry cleaners have the potential to clean your registry but only a few can do the work completely and efficiently.

RegDefense is the #1 registry cleaner as it is very capable of cleaning your registry files completely and efficiently without causing any log. It can repair DLL’s and general system slowdowns. And after all the clean ups and repairs, RegDefense can turn your computer into something like a brand new system free from any errors, hang-ups and threats of crashes. With RegDefense, your computer will function at its highest level.

RegDefense’ main features and benefits include error reporting, deep scan, scan log, backup/restore, start up manager, registry optimize, registry compactor, registry defrag, and 64 bit compatible. You can’t enjoy some of these features and benefits from other registry cleaners.

#2: RegFix

RegFix is one of the popular registry cleaners of today. It can do all the basic cleaning and repairing of registry errors. It can also manage start-up programs, manage browser helper objects, backup windows registry for full protection and add or remove programs. However, according to some individuals who have already tried it, its scanning time is twice the time of other registry cleaners and some of its registry repair utilities are a bit over-zealous in terms of reporting of errors. It also can impose higher risk of getting rid of significant files.

RegFix can be a practical purchase considering the basic cleaning and repairing function it can give. However, can be just second best.

#3: RegEasy

RegEasy like any other registry cleaners will scan your PC, safely clean the errors and invalid entries that cause system slow, freezing and crashing, and repair registry problems to improve system’s performance.

However, during scan, some logs can be experienced by the user. Also, registry defrag is not possible with RegEasy. Not to mention that it doesn’t extend 64 bit compatibility feature as well, so its use can be limited.
