People who have money always want to tell you how to get make money. The only problem is that they want you to pay them to get the information on how to get rich quick and become wealth. You probably already know how to become wealthy but just not following the guidelines.

Experienced investors know, probably through their own experience, that timing the market is impossible. The performance of the market over the course of the year is usually a result of a few very big days. It is impossible to know when these big days will occur, so the best thing to do is contract a internet data entry to be “in” the market at all times.

Rich people, on the other hand, may not actually even have any money. Rich people simply just want to show the world they are so rich by throwing cash around while looking down on people “below them.”

Rich people want it to be obvious how much money the have or make. By being over-spenders they waste money by purchasing unnecessary, outrageous things just to help them create their image of being so rich.

It simply means you have to work hard. If your goal and purpose in life is to become wealthy and get rich quick, than you should follow those who have already become accomplished at it. The only way to be the best is to learn from the best.

Once investors realize they made too many costly mistakes and that the market can’t be timed be even professional investors, the slow and steady approach that guarantees wealth starts looking appealing.

A chain restaurant focused purely on cost cutting measure to please the investors for this quarter (Typically the path of least resistance) causes the restaurant employees and managers to bend, break or reinterpret the rules gradually, over a longer period of time. The companys money crunch accelerates the closer it gets to earnings report, and therefore, much more noticeable. Replacing quality experienced trained staff with cheaper becomes acceptable, accelerating the guests perception and reality of the lowered standards.

Those that exemplify the highest ideals, elevate their performance because they have to, or its simply how they pay the bills, maintain friends and customers- and keep their job. but, as often happens in the corporate world, the economy takes a turn for the worse, some bad deals are done, prices skyrocket, leadership changes, competition gets tougher or the Vice President of Operations French Fry rebate check bounces. For whatever reason, companies decide to, or are put into a position to, run the prices up/cut corners, and raise additional funds from one area, in order to funnel into another. When this happens, it usually comes from the biggest operations costs: utilities, food and beverages, and the payroll. These areas affect us – the restaurant managers and employees.

Why mess with our world? Small increases in price or pocket change saved here or there, multiplied times many customers, and again by many units, result in piles of money. Did you really think that the chain restaurant upper management was going to give up their spa memberships? stock options? Tee times at the times in preparation for the fall charity fundraiser especially you need them most? A good sign that youre in this savings vortex is a company-wide, new-found awareness of utility waste. The temperature is warmer/cooler than it used to be, managers are bugging everybody about lighting and equipment turn on schedules, manager bonuses are impacted based upon the increase in rolls of toilet paper used this year to date verses last. Not to worry. These symptoms only last about a month or two at tops.

You may notice menu or portion resizing, garnishes no longer being necessary, (I heard parsley futures will be hit hard this season) changes from linens and glassware to paper products, cleaning and armored car services – even doing away with those mints at the front desk that you swore that youd swear off of this New Years Resolution. A big labor crunch, cutting service levels to the bone and pushing heart-of-the-house crews to the limit, mean theres not much imagination behind this drive for the dollars. Shortcuts in cleaning regimen or training standards show that morals arent such a bargain anymore, and the leadership is willing to sacrifice the future for quick results. All of these measures lead to a lowering of standards once preached by the very same entities that now fear for their own personal money and continued employment. If they visit your locale, be very afraid. Theyre dangerous when its their own club membership on the butchers block.

So, when your guests start to complain, a cook, dishwasher or bartender walks out because of the increased workload, the climate control is whacked out and the boss has eaten all of the good painkillers from the first aid kit, (I recommend pain-aid it is loaded with caffeine) and you are suffering withdrawal symptoms due to an absence of reasonable standards. The companys current fear crisis is deemed more important than its once lofty mission and vision statement (because it is only for a short time until the economy bounces back).

A chain restaurant focused purely on cost cutting measure to please the investors for this quarter (Typically the path of least resistance) causes the restaurant employees and managers to bend, break or reinterpret the rules gradually, over a longer period of time. The companys money crunch then becomes much more rapid, and therefore, much more noticeable. Replacing quality experienced trained staff with cheaper becomes acceptable, accelerating the guests perception and reality of the lowered standards.

While asset management has been common around for a fair while it’s existance among industries has only been apparent in the last few years. People do have quite a number of questions regarding asset management especially if they have interest in utilizing the utilities of asset management companies.

Asset management basically means the method that a company or a special asset management firm catalogues assets such as equipment, chairs, tables, computers and technology also including certain buildings owned by a company or an individual. The tracking of the real location of the assetsmethods which can be employed for the managing of assets, and accounting of amortizations, depreciation values along with the resale values of the assets are also part of asset management.

Asset management gives you an easier time and makes it more efficient to manage the assets owed by the company or the individual and looks into ways of investing these assets for more returns. Collective investment schemes, pension funds, private banking and wealth management are a few ways which handle assets that make asset management efficient and increase one’s assets.

Included in asset management is a number of processes which are all designed to increase the productivity companies have or individuals. Asset management services involve, plann and procurement, as well as the accounting of costs through disposal, tracking physical location of assets and accounting tasks such as amortization and depreciation. Asset management also establishes contact with suppliers which helps to make it easier for companies to contact these suppliers for service, and replacements.

When you keep track of important information like a person’s assets Assets should be properly tracked. It helps to know who they were purchased from, who uses them their location the suppliers to contact for support, and lease expriations. In addition the right disposal period Might provide a basis for managing and optimization of everyone.

Something a lot of people are dying to know.

The data is what Ive gathered from my own experience, current consulting friends, and public sources. They wont be 100% accurate but should be pretty close.

2 valuable resources on consulting include my blog – Management Consulted – and wallstreetoasis.com

Here are the numbers.

1st year out of college undergraduate:

Base salaries: $50-65K Signing bonuses: $5-10K Relocation/moving expenses: $5-10K Year-end bonus: $5-10K

Thats an average of $70-75K in first year compensation. As a summer intern, you can expect a comparable, pro-rated salary (minus the bonuses). Please note that this does not include retirement contributions.

First year out of business school/MBA:

Base salaries: $110-140K Signing bonuses: $20-40K Relocation/moving expenses: $10-20K Year-end bonus: $20-40K depending on firm

Thats an average of $160-200K in first year compensation. This does not include retirement contributions. My original estimates were a bit lower, but have been adjusted upward based on emails and the comments below.

Upward track through partner:

My numbers have a higher risk of being inaccurate as this is only from personal anecdotes, so if you have better information, please let me know.

Engagement manager/Project leader: $175-250K Associate principal/Senior project leader: $250-400K Partner/Principal: $500-800K Senior partner/Director: $1M plus At more senior levels the pay is increasingly variable and performance-based

How consulting salaries lose to finance:

At almost every position as a management consultant, your salary will be 30-50% lower than a comparable position in investment banking. This varies by year and median salaries in non-banking departments (such as research, asset management, sales & trading) are lower. The truth is simple: consulting is not a profession to make big bucks.

How consulting firms try to make up the salary gap with finance:

Better benefits – healthcare, life insurance, etc Retirement contributions – this one is important because at places like McKinsey, theyll contribute an added 5-10% of your base salary to your retirement funds, effectively a 5-10% year-end bonus! (A reader just informed me that his MBB retirement contribution starting fulltime in 09 was 4.5%, which is lower than Id seen in previous years) More generous expense and reimbursement policies, travel perks, etc

Hope you found that helpful. Good luck breaking into consulting.

by Tom Moore

The concept of a supply chain seems to suggest strong links between supplier, manufacturer, distributor, and customer. But supply chain logistics professionals know this is often far from the truth. Even inside an individual company, the links between functions are weak. In the same plant, the shipping dock is not coordinated with the production planner, purchasing is not aligned with manufacturing and warehousing feels that everything flows down hill from production. We will look at some of the links in this internal supply chain and how they impact logistics performance and then introduce a new class of system that can plan across silos.

Production and distribution even in the same plant are often not tied to each other. Distribution complains that they are the recipients of push from manufacturing to distribution. In the internal supply chain, the logistics of push is hard to deal with. Each hour the warehouse is faced with decisions of where to put product as it arrives off the line. This is far from a linked activity.

Purchasing and manufacturing seem to always be a dysfunctional link in the supply chain. Manufacturing mostly wants the status quo while purchasing seeks to change to get closer to the perfect supplier. Often, however, the decisions are not shared as independent departments see little logistics synergy. The result is often service disruptions and higher logistics costs.

Price does not equate to value. This tenet is true in logistics as it is in other areas. Unfortunately, the transportation procurement groups often don’t heed the transportation operations team. The result of this is losses like smaller payloads for the so-called cheap carriers. This excess cost shows up in total cost but not in the price.

DRP planners often create plans that the loaders in the warehouse cant execute. For example, trying to ship 30 pallets of product having a pallet layer pattern that over-hangs the pallet by 2 inches each direction. There is no way this fits on the truck! Result ” logistics misery ” cutting product and creating potential shortages.

There are systems that support the integration of the internal supply chain. These execution systems plan short time intervals ” often as short as 10 minutes. In this way, they coordinate the use of shared resources such as dock doors, inventory, and people. This, combined with an incentive system that is consistent across the whole operation, makes everybody work to the same end. A good example of this is requiring certain profit and capital milestones be met before anybody gets bonus.

Optimizing the internal supply chain requires logistics systems that go far beyond the simple transaction-oriented WMS, TMS, or load builder. There are two categories of optimization systems that generate the biggest return: Distribution Master Scheduling and Vehicle Load Building. Distribution Master Scheduling generates optimized plans for optimizing all activities after production. Working in 10 minute increments, the capacity constrained system provides plans that make what is planned be what is executed. The same is true for Vehicle Load Building. This optimizer creates the shipment that fills out the load (weight/cube or both) and provides the warehouse with detailed pick lists and loading instructions to ensure everything fits legally and damage free.

Talent Assessment can help employers find good leadership qualities among the many applicants for a job. to find future leaders? If a company has several senior managers ready for retirement over the next few years, and the company has very few potential leaders to replace them, then the organization may turn to recent college graduates or recruiting firms for the future leaders it needs. However, the organization may see a deficit in available leaders and may want to recruit possible leaders among graduating college seniors or recent college graduates. One of the best tools to determine future leaders is a talent assessment.

An organization may be in the process of upgrading or revamping an existing company-sponored leadership training progam. As the leadership training committee maps out a plan to find likely candidates for training, they can also develop their ownassessment and interview process. The talent portion of the assessment can be directed toward the twelve traits found in good leaders.

There are twelve indicators of a good leader that can be determined thorugh a Psychometric Assessment:

1. Carefulness. A good leader plans and thinks carefully before he speaks or acts.

Focusing on office design and building maintenance are important parts to going about doing business that many corporation owners ignore. The layout of office interiors can have a deep effect on the mood and productivity of staff members and upper management. Keeping a well-maintained workplace is crucial in reference to health and safety concerns. By using proper design and upkeep, offices are able to enjoy some amount of control over the contentment, comfort, and effectiveness of not only their staff members, but themselves also.

It would seem to be obvious that the more contented and healthier someone is, the more prolific that individual will be. Even if business owners might understand this idea, they quite often disregard the results that office design can have on their staff members. Many times, building maintenance is disregarded, resulting in awful air quality or dangerous areas inside the office. Furthermore, the erroneous colors, furnishings setup, or level of noise can harmfully impact the temperment and fortitude of those functioning within such a situation.

One wonderful way to begin improving office design is to think about the total amount of untidiness that is presently in the place of work. Office interiors that allow little room for workers to move around can bring about emotions of being “closed in” or claustrophobia. A lot of home offices end up structured in this style, with extra office equipment or furniture using up most of the available room. By opening the room up and making space, many individuals will experience a sense of freedom. What needs to be recognized is that these sensations can turn into a more optimistic mood, more communication with others, and more teamwork.

Bringing in plants and flowers can have a fantastic result on the individuals working in an office environment. Office interiors filled with nature can have a calming effect. When an office feels too sterile, individuals can once more feel closed in, which may result in a more antagonistic environment. Try using windows that expose vast lawns or garden areas. An additional helpful manner to perk up office design is to pay attention to the noise level. If office equipment or nearby traffic are too deafening, the din can have a depressing impact on those working. Try adding extra rugs, drapes, or office dividing walls to assist with any surplus noise.

An office design change could be necessary when the office interiors are comprised of design plans and furniture from two to three decades ago. A lot of older office spaces are darkened with shadowy colored furniture, carpets and blinds. By restructuring the office with brighter colors and more open spaces, the work atmosphere can be changed from a dreary experience to one that aids to bring a cheerful and tranquil feeling to each person who enters the updated space.

Building maintenance must be thought about when making any office design alterations. Maintenance is needed to keep all parts of the place of business in excellent working condition. Usual office cleanings maintain the place of work free from grime and dirt. Objects such as the roof must be sustained in order to avert water leaks, which will just bring about added costs to the owner when the inside of the place of business endures water damage.

One aspect to building maintenance that is often disregarded is the air quality. Any office design arrangement must include the proper total of garbage cans to collect waste the right way. Refrigerators must be in any kitchen spot to avoid food from going bad. All garbage must be disposed of in a punctual manner. Plants and flowers need to be kept watered and cared for. Keep furniture away from every vent and be sure to keep up all heating and air conditioning systems.

Even if all businesses have precise actions that must be acted on during the course of each work day in order to be prolific, don’t ever underestimate the control that the right office design and building maintenance can have on the individuals in charge of finishing each duty. Whether working in a home office or a big corporate building, office interiors are a key part to creating the environment that best facilitates to bring in the profits everyone is concerned with.

It’s every small business owners dream to be bought by Google. The good news is that they are buyers and they have plenty cash.

We are all familiar with the high profile large deals like its acquisition of Youtube for $1.65 billion but there are plenty of small, low profile purchases too.

There are 7 criteria you need to consider:

1. What types of companies do Google buy?

Google is an engineering centric company focused on hiring the greatest computer scientists in the world. They first build products internally and then pursue acquisitions.

Most acquisitions fall into a well defined set of groups.

Initially, those groups were search, advertising, maps and a general interest/social networking/blogging category.

The groups have now extended to mobile, enterprise and security.

They seek potent engineering talent, high IQ and great IP.

If the company is related to traffic, they require high value traffic that can generate money. They don’t do traffic for traffic’s sake!

2. Deal sizes tend to be small.

At the recent AGM, Brin was asked if they would be making another large purchase like Doubleclick and he said there aren’t many large things. Google prefer smaller acquisitions as it’s easier to integrate smaller teams.

3. Focus on the end user.

Most business owners forget the importance of focussing on the end user. Business start ups focus on competition not end users. Google expects the business owner to understand the end user as they must care about your product, nothing is worse than indifference.

4. Don’t be afraid to tackle the big boys.

Large companies like Ebay and Microsoft have significantly greater manpower and financial resources but they also have drawbacks. They aren’t as hungry or driven as start up businesses who are also more flexible and willing to make sacrifices.

Google bought Youtube which was far superior to Google Video. Ebay bought Paypal as very few people were using Ebay’s Billpoint.

5. Pay attention to details.

When your product is 80% done, that means you have another 80% not 20% to go.

To get something close is easy but it’s vital to focus on the little things. This will set you apart from your competition. You can have the best algorithm in the world but if the user struggles to find out how to click a box, you wont succeed.

6. Will you get swallowed up or retain autonomy?

The answer depends on the role your company will play. If you’re small, you’re more likely to fill a gap and get absorbed in the culture and existing teams. If you’re larger, you may retain more autonomy. Google don’t insist people relocate.

7. What makes deals fail?

The biggest obstacle is lack of openness and honesty.

Disclose everything upfront, even if it’s difficult e.g. disclose you have a contract with a competitor whose terms you can’t legally disclose. If they discover something later, the value of your deal goes to zero not half, but zero. If you disclose tough issues upfront, they’ll work with you to make it happen. If you aren’t open, the trust is gone.

At the recent AGM, Schmidt confirmed that they weren’t going to see more large acquisitions, but they would continue to focus on acquiring talent and technologies.

by R. Michael Richmond

For hundreds of years, the janitorial service has been the forgotten and ignored industry. Suddenly, it has become the legitimate starting point for buildings that want to Go Green. The concept of Green relates primarily to the health and well-being of the people who inhabit our homes, schools, offices, and factories everywhere. The pressure of federal, state, and city mandates will soon force all buildings to transition to Green, and it often starts with the janitorial service.

What will drive this movement is the demand for Green offices and Green buildings. One interesting example is the state of Florida that passed a ruling that withheld state business from any hotel that did not qualify as a Green hotel. The affect was immediate and profound as the state is a significant part of Florida hotel revenue.

The Green School Act is yet another illustration of the power of the Green movement on business. New York and Illinois have already passed the Green School Act, and other states are sure to follow. In the state of New York, letters are going out telling all building owners that they have a limited time to get ready for new Green mandates in the city. We find that cities and states are anxious to pass rules and mandates requiring businesses to conform to Green standards.

You already know that Bill Clinton signed Executive Order 13101 that required all government agencies and building to install Green products and services. George W Bush signed another executive order strengthening Green requirements in government facilities. Already, cities like New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, San Diego, Dallas, and Fort Lauderdale are promoting their cities as “Green Cities” asking all companies and corporations to “Go Green.” You can easily see why knowledgeable people are predicting that the Green market will take over all businesses in the next two years.

This new economy will bring what I call Green Pretenders who will take only token efforts to be Green but will declare that they are the real Green janitorial service. You see, Green does not come in a bottle but in the service that uses the Green product. When all janitorial services have a few Green products and some HEPA vacuums, we will see what I also call the “Green Equalization.” This means that there will be plenty of look-alike Green firms, but not of them are qualified professionally.

Green clean training and certification is the only way to prove which service is Green and which is pretending to be Green. Green Clean Institute is the best and most reliable source for Green Clean training and certification offering a federal trademark program and a national status recognized by Dun and Bradstreet. To understand the concept of certification, it is important that a credible third party establish a standard and a course of study to attain the listed certification. This is why self-appointed Green firms are ineffective. There is no standardization, and private claims can be readily compromised by those seeking only to use it in a competitive manner.

Green Clean Institute has one of the largest student bodies of any comparable program with over 500 students nationally, as well was several international students. Recently, Green Clean Institute – Canada” has been established to bring the same training and certification to the Canadian janitorial and cleaning firms. If your company plans to “Go Green,” we suggest that you start at the most logical process in your building … the cleaning service.

Unfortunately, many otherwise intelligent people mistaken use the word Green as a synonym for environmentalism. This is a mistake since Green is always a health-related topic. The LEED program adds to this confusion by including items like energy and water conservation, building materials, and access to public transportation into their version of the Green Building. Green Clean Institute believes that the Green Building should focus on indoor air quality and the health concerns of the people who live, shop, or work in the facility.

What is the effect of the Green Cleaning movement on the janitorial industry? The facts are clean that the cleaning and janitorial world is in transition, and it will be forever changed to what will come to be known as the Green Janitorial era. How people transition to this new status will differ, and there will be those who try to ignore it until the Green practice is literally forced on them by mandate.
