More and more people are taking advantage of the ability to make and distribute their own podcast. Many people have built up their own significant listenership.

No matter what stage of podcasting you are at, whether you’re just starting or already have a fan base, you may well be interesting in ways you might be able to take advantage of this and make money from your podcast.

If you are looking to do this with your own podcast. This article will give you five ways to do so.

Put Your Podcast Up for Sale

When most people try to think of a way to earn money from their podcast, this is their first idea. It does seem the logical way forward. However, it is not necessarily the best way.

If people have to pay to hear your podcast, it is very unlikely they will give it a chance. So this method will mean that you will find it very difficult to pick up new listeners.

Get Your Podcast Sponsored

Finding sponsorship for your podcast is another common way that people try to monetize their podcast.

This is a very good option for people who have either a very larger listener base or who have a very tightly focussed podcast (and one for which there are products or services for sale).

Affiliate Commissions

Many companies are willing to share profits from items sold to people you have sent to their website. The biggest of these are Amazon and eBay. Podcasters can make money in this way.

The only problem is that this does require a little technical know-how to make it work in a podcast.

Sell Your Old Podcasts

If you have a large back catalog of podcasts, this is a goldmine. Whilst your most recent podcasts are free, you can sell your old podcasts. This has the advantage of giving value to your long term listeners and having something to hook in to.

Selling Your Own Products

There are a number of options for you to create your own products. Using a service such as CafePress, you can create t-shirts, badges, buttons etc featuring your podcast’s logo. This is a great way to tap into the popularity of your podcast.
