You were supremely surprised when the security assessment done on your computer system came back that there were major problems. It was the last thing you expected to hear about your computer system; that is was compromised. When the first check of the system was done, you were told things were good.

There is something wrong with that scenario. Why are there two different results from the same kind of assessment? You didn’t really think too much of the first assessment that said you were all safe and secure, as that, in your heart of hearts, was how you felt about your system.

Your computer system cost a fortune and you’re shocked it has security holes in it. It was a good thing you weren’t so totally smug about the security of your computer system that it stopped you from getting another check done. This is when you discovered you had major problems and were totally in denial.

A router that your system was using had been highjacked and was sending users to another website and then asking them for personal information that was harvested. Most people are familiar with what phishing is, however to make sure you do know, we will give you the short definition.

Once people are on the dummy website they are asked for all sorts of valuable personal information and this is how phishers get people’s credit card numbers etc.

Your personal information is used by hackers to steal identities, send a virus or compromise a computer system. While there are many inventive ways to steal your personal information, once it is gone, it is gone. This type of scam is what gives people who run computer systems that deal with financial matters and money transfers etc the supreme willies.

If you happen to run a company whose business relies on the Internet and computers to keep track of your money and customers, make sure your system is as secure as you think it is. Finding out your computer system is not secure is the worst thing that could ever happen to your business.

Always make sure you double-check the lifeline of your business or you may live to regret that you didn’t. In order to make sure your security assessment is a valid one, hire an investigations firm that knows what it is doing and has extensive hands-on experience in this area.

The benefits of a network security camera system extend beyond the functionalities that an analog security camera system can provide. The advantages include remote accessibility, high image quality, even management and intelligent video capabilities, easy integration possibilities and better scalability, flexibility and cost-effectiveness.

Someone could access, manage, and view live and recorded video from anywhere around the world with an internet connection. Network security systems these days are also referred to as IP-based networks because the communicate over the network using the Internet Protocol, which is the same thing as your office network that you can connect to from virtually anywhere, anytime through the internet.

For this reason, third-party security firms began offering entire packages that will install and manage your surveillance system for you. They can securely and remotely access your cameras video feed without having to physically be on site. Most of the time they can even fix any problems that are diagnosed remotely.

With an analog CCTV system, you would have to be at the monitoring site to view and manage video, and remote video access would require installation of additional equipment such as a video encoder or a network digital video recorder (DVR). A DVR is the digital version of a video cassette recorder.

In terms of video quality, network security cameras can offer high resolution images and digital enhancing technology that analog cameras cannot. Over time, stored analog tapes degrade while digital data do not so the video will always remain in the quality that it was recorded.

With analog systems that uses DVR, there has to be conversions from analog to digital in the camera, then converted back to analog to transport through the analog cables, then again to digital to be recorded. With each conversion the image quality is degraded. Analog video signals also become weaker the more cabling it has to travel through. In a fully digital system, images are digitized once in the network camera and stay digital so there is minimal degradation.

In an analog system, each camera needs a cable running directly from the security camera to the monitoring station. Network cameras can be placed and networked or removed from virtually anywhere.

As a video security system grows and cameras are added or removed, the internal infrastructure very flexible to accommodate the systems needs. It helps that all network security products are built to a standard so any of the products can easily be integrated into the system.

For this reason, once the network system is already in place, it is much more cost effective than an analog system on the basis of the flexibility alone. Network cables and wireless devices are also cheaper than traditional cabling for analog systems.

CCTV stands for close-circuit television, which transmits images and even sounds from mounted video cameras to remote monitors, usually for security and safety purposes. The transmission can take place either wirelessly or through cables connecting the video camera to the monitors.

Developed originally in Germany in 1942 to observe the V2-rocket launch by German engineer Walter Bruch, the CCTV system was installed in main business streets to prevent crimes. Banks and stores followed suit, to monitor the activities within the establishment and as a record of evidence of criminal activity. Today, CCTV systems are available for a private individual to install for the security of their homes and properties.

The technology works by installing video cameras, which often tilts and pans the room, in strategic places that can give a wide view of the location. These video cameras transmit and record these images to a remote monitor or monitors usually watched by security personnel.

CCTV systems are often installed in densely populated areas; banks, airports, subways, stores and malls, police and military facilities and even in the streets. These crowded locations are prime targets for crimes like theft, terrorism and other acts of violence. Studies show that a criminal is unlikely to commit physical crimes such as direct assault within the view of or near a camera. The fact that the offender’s features can be recorded in the cameras and be used to catch him later can greatly deter someone from committing a crime.

While the question remains whether CCTV can actually reduce crimes, it has provided help in detecting criminals caught in the act. The video recordings of the CCTV installed in shops can provide identification to shop-lifters and burglars or clues to crimes done within the vicinity. Other than monitoring criminal acts, the surveillance systems are also being used to combat anti-social behaviours which include minor offenses such as littering, drunkenness, traffic violations, urinating in public and other public order offenses.

Although most linked with surveillance and security, there are other uses of CCTV. Electron microscopy, medical imaging and robotics are few other applications of this technology. Live on-site video footages for conferences, concerts and sporting events such as boxing and wrestling are also an application of the CCTV system, as these transmissions are broadcasted to small and specific areas.

The CCTV systems have many types. Some cameras capture images alone, while some can record sounds as well. The type of CCTV camera depends on its main usage. If the main purpose is for surveillance or traffic control, it is not required to have coloured cameras; black and white images actually have a better resolution. However, if the main purpose of the CCTV system is criminal deterrence and identification, a coloured system is essential.

A CCTV system can offer a sense of peace and safety to the everyday citizen; the awareness that criminals and terrorists are unlikely to commit violent acts when there are cameras around help calm people’s minds.

Lessening crime rates and bringing peace of mind to citizens only shows how valuable CCTV systems are these modern times.

Viruses can be annoying and they can be extremely destructive, however they can be fairly easy to prevent. If you have an anti-virus program running at all times on your computer, as well as take great care in opening email attachments, odds are your computer will remain virus free.

The majority of viruses are transmitted through emails. Unfortunately it’s not enough to trust emails only from addresses you recognize. Many email viruses actually will email themselves to emails found in your own address book. This means that an email from a “safe” address could actually contain a virus. You should discard any emails which you don’t recognize the sender, and always virus scan attachments from those that you do.

If you don’t currently have anti-virus software running on your computer your data and entire computer are at risk. If it is cost you are worried about, it is no excuse. Most anti-virus programs will run anywhere from free to $50.

Anti-virus programs work by looking for virus signatures. When you receive any file the software will scan it and alert you should it find a virus signature. Most allow for full system scans at your request or at a scheduled time when you won’t be using your PC. When a virus is found most software will give you several options, such as delete or quarantine.

It is vital that you keep your anti-virus software updated. While virus signatures, or coding patterns, are very similar, they do change and if you don’t have an updated program a virus may sneak by undetected. Most programs will update their databases automatically or alert you when an update is available.

While anti-virus software is the best protection against viruses, it’s not always perfect. Users should take great care when adding files to their computers, via email, downloading, or even CDs and DVDs. Anytime you are taking files from an external source and transferring them to your hard drive you run the risk of also transferring a computer virus. You should always virus scan any files before adding them or immediately after if need be.

by Amy Nutt

If you have a high traffic website with dynamic features, then switching to a dedicated server is probably the best choice for you. The major advantages are faster load time, increased security, and total control over your website. This dedicated server is a single web server, devoted solely to the use of one organization, unlike shared servers that host a number of other users and websites. Particularly suitable for larger corporations that process and store high quantities of secure data, dedicated servers often require a higher capital investment yet have a number of key advantages:

1. Higher speed and performance levels By switching to a dedicated server, the managed hosting is devoted to running one organization’s software and website. With a shared server, the actions and usage of other websites can impact upon the response times of a website and can even cause a time-out, especially if one website has a promotion and experiences a sudden surge in traffic.

2. Increased capacity Because a dedicated server is created for just one organization, capacity is only limited by the size of the server rather than the number of users present on that host. Dedicated servers provide a more reliable website which can run full-time with less server jamming. Websites can feature more complex functions and there are fewer limitations on the number of email accounts and attached databases.

3. Increased security By sharing the server with other sites and users, there is a possibility that other customers may be able to view secure files and in some cases overwrite certain files. This can be extremely risky if a company stores and processes highly sensitive data. If any website on the host is attacked by a hacker or virus, this also makes the rest of the sites on the server vulnerable.

4. Increased site control With complete server dedication, it is possible to have more control over data access and over what happens on that server, such as which scripts can be run and which online activities can occur.

5. Ability to customise hardware set-up Dedicated hardware is provided for the server which can only be used by one customer. This allows the customer to have control over the hardware and make any alterations or upgrades.

6. Customised software Many shared sites have limited features and software availability due to security and stability issues. For example, JSP support on shared servers is still rare. With a dedicated server, there is greater freedom of choice as to which programmes run, allowing a customer’s individual needs to be catered for.

7. Creation of more than one domain Companies that have multiple divisions or chains benefit greatly from a dedicated server in that they can create several domains on one server. This is more cost effective and efficient than each outlet renting space on a different host and creates a uniform sales platform with a simplified administration and support system.

8. Increased reliability It only requires one rogue website in a shared server to cause a search engine to ban the entire server, due to the shared IP address. With a dedicated server, reliability is no longer compromised by other customers’ poorly written scripts or security problems.

9. Effective large website maintenance A dedicated server provides the ability to run a large website, which can be remotely controlled and operated, without the need to employ large numbers of staff. There is no requirement to purchase or maintain server equipment and server upgrades are more cost effective.

10. Technical support Many dedicated server providers offer additional administrative, trouble-shooting and management support.

If your website does not have any of these qualities, then you know that it is time to move your site to a dedicated server. You’ve put a lot of work into your website, so you deserve to have the best service possible.

Identity theft is a popular crime today. But unlike other crimes, the victims of identity theft often are unaware that a crime has been committed until after the damage to their credit and their name has been done. Would you know before it is too late if your identity is stolen? Here is what to check for to stop identity theft in its tracks.

One of the most common way criminals use another person’s identity is to apply for new credit cards or loans under a false name.

If you receive letters or phone calls from creditors stating that you have been approved or denied a credit card or loan you never applied for, you should contact the creditor right away and get to the bottom of the situation.

This is one of the first signs that something is wrong and can save you a lot of problems down the road if you investigate soon enough.

If you suddenly stop receiving bills or credit card statements, this is another indicator that you may be the victim of identity theft. Often a criminal assuming another person’s identity will change the address on that person’s bills so they are unaware that someone else is using their credit cards until it is too late.

Make sure you know when you are supposed to receive your bills each month and if they don’t come on time call your credit card company and find out why it’s late. Keeping an eye on your bills is a good way to thwart identity theft before it gets detrimental to you r credit.

A pretty obvious indicator that you are the victim of identity theft is seeing charges on your credit card bills that are not from you. Contact your credit card company and report the unauthorized use of your card.

While this is a very common indicator of identity theft it often goes overlooked if a person doesn’t pay close attention to their bill so always review it as soon as it arrives. Paying close attention to your finances is the best way to stop identity theft before it gets out of hand.

Humans have been building homes for themselves in some shape or form since our first days on this planet. Our homes are built to protect ourselves from the elements nature can throw at us, such as, rain, sun, snow, wind etc and also to keep us safe and secure from others of our kind who don’t follow our society’s rules.

Our Homes have to keep us safe from the likes of thieves and law breaking folks. Sadly in order to do this in today’s world we need to start deploying a home security device of some king.

A home or business security system, no longer a complicated device to set up!

Setting up a home or business security device in today’s world is no longer a difficult task. Thanks to technology the home security devices of today are very easy to set up and affordable.

Most robbers these days will attempt to gain access to your premises via the entrance points where the least amount of people can be found, this normally means a side or back window or door. If you do not have some kind of security device watching over these entrance points you really are making it far too easy.

Using and installing most of today’s home security devices is not difficult anymore. Especially in the case of wireless home security devices, since these systems really do make it a breeze to set up cameras around your premises.

It is greatly for this reason that these systems are extremely popular today. Having cameras around your home and property you can look at from anywhere in the world via the Internet is the perfect way to know exactly what’s going on in your residence and surrounding property when you aren’t there.

But in no way are you limited to security cameras. With complex alarm systems that can actually ring the police for you, high-tech infrared sensors, heat sensors etc, etc there are just too many devices to quote here.

One thing you must remember when installing your system is that no entrance points should be left out. if you don’t cover all the entrances to your property it stands to reason that you are leaving a week spot that any thief can exploit.

If thieves know your house is protected with a security system they are less likely to even attempt to enter your property, since for them it is an added risk that they don’t need to take, it makes more sense for them to visit another home without a security device. So make sure you put signs around your home informing everyone that your home is equipped with a home security device.

To recap; in today’s world it is essential that we install and protect our property with some kind of security device. Thanks to the development of technology it is now easier and cheaper than ever to get your property properly protected. Those who believe they don’t need a home security system really are pushing their luck.

Every second of every day houses and businesses are being broken into. Getting your abode damaged by an intruder and or your hard earned possessions stolen can truly be heartbreaking and often puts people in financial difficulties, but sadly that isn’t all that can happen, if someone in your family is in the home at the time of the break-in they will also be at risk. For this reason installing a home security system in today’s world really is a necessity.

More reasons why you must install your own home security system

The best all-round counter measure you can implement against this problem is your own home security system. Thankfully these days it no longer matters so much whether your budget is high or not, since the prices of home security systems have come down dramatically in recent years.

Obviously the more you pay the better protected you will be, but it’s far better to have a simple home security system than to not have one at all. Get you system setup, tested to make sure it works well and get it hocked up with your local police station.

Professional thieves will sometimes attempt to cut all power to your residence in order to knock out any home security devices. For this reason it is absolutely imperative that the system you acquire does not run off your mains power and has its own separate energy supply.

A lot of home security systems these days run on normal batteries to prevent this from occurring, you will of course have to make sure these batteries always have enough power.

Once you have installed your home security system, doing it yourself or having it installed by a professional, you will need to test it out with all of the entrance points of your building.

While doing the testing remember to inform your neighbours and the local police of what you are doing so that no one gets alarmed and thinks you are actually being burgled.

Publicizing the fact that your property is protected with a home security system is very important. A burglar when assessing a property will primarily want to know if he or she can break into it without much risk of being detected, if he or she can see that your property is indeed protected with a home security system he or she is far more likely to move on to the next house.

To further enforce this, you should make it publicly known that your home is protected with a state-of-the-art home security system, just don’t give away where exactly the device is set up.

By doing this you will greatly lessen the chances of your residence being picked by a robber to be broken into. Installing a Security system, is a small price to pay to protect your abode and property.

Right now as you read this article all over the world peoples propertys are being broken into. Every day people end up in financial difficulties as a direct result of their residences falling victim to thieves. And of course just getting your abode vandalised and or your property stolen is not all that can happen, if anybody happens to be in the building at the time of the burglary they will also be at risk. The installation of a home security system today has become a necessity.

More reasons why you must install your own home security system

Pretty much the most cost effective way to help prevent your residence from falling victim to your next local burglary, is to install (DIY) or have installed your own home security system. You don’t necessarily have to spend a fortune on your system, especially if you go the DIY route.

Clearly the higher end more expensive home security systems will protect you better than the cheaper lower end models, but at the end of the day it’s far better to just have a basic home security system than it is to not have one at all!

It is not unheard of for thieves to cut the power supply to the building they are about to break into in order to prevent any home security systems from working. So one thing you will need to make sure of is that any home security devices you purchase run off of their very own power supply.

For this very reason most alarm systems on the market today utilize normal batteries or some other means of acquiring energy separate from your residence mains power. In the case that your alarm system utilizes ordinary batteries you will of course have to make sure they are always topped up and in working order.

When you’re testing your newly installed home security system, remember to test all of the points of entrance of your home, including all doors and windows upstairs and downstairs and in your cellar if you have one.

When testing out your system don’t forget to notify everyone in the area including your local police about what you are about to do, it really would be embarrassing if you were accused of trying to break-in to your own property now wouldn’t it!

When a thief surveys a property, he/she wants to know if he/she can easily enter and leave the residents without being detected. If your home has plenty of signs informing the thief of the existence of a home security device he/she is far more likely to move on to another residence that provides less of a risk for him or her.

It’s also a good idea to tell people that your home is protected with an advanced home security system, just don’t go round informing people of the location of the main part of your unit.

Just by doing this you can significantly diminish the chances of your building being broken into. A home security system today is a great investment for your abode and one that everyone should make.

Email phishing is a way for scammers to attempt to collect vital financial and personal information from the people to whom they are sent. This is potentially a very expensive lesson if one falls for the emails. While many are very easy to recognize, others are becoming quite sophisticated and can take even the most astute person

Basically, most email phishing scams are an attempt to gain your information, both personal and financial. With this information, the phisher can assume your identity in order to, for example, set up fraudulent accounts or he can just outright steal money from your banking or other financial accounts.

One popular phishing email is the foreigner who wants to or needs to move money out of his country to the States. Feeling sorry for his plight, the generous email receipient will allow give him the information needed to access their own bank account. To tell the truth, what often precipitates this generosity is the simple fact that greed takes over for the poor foreigner will offer to pay you from the funds transferred. You might just see a small amount of money transferred to the account but the next thing you know, all you have will be removed from your account. As long as these scams have been around, some people still fall for them.

There is another type of phishing email that is even harder to catch. It is an official looking email from your bank or credit card company or some other financial company. It requests that you update or modify your personal information at their site and provides you with a link to go there. Since it looks very official, many people click the link, go to the site and enter their login and password. After all, it looks just like your bank’s site. This is what can make these scamming emails so much harder to detect. Everything looks like it should. However, you should be aware that most financial companies will not ask you to update your information this way.

Whether you are playing or working online, you need to keep your wits about you regarding the emails you receive. Perhaps the best thing you can do to help prevent email phishing is to report any emails that you get that look suspicious. Maybe once in awhile, you will report one that is completely legitimate. But this is a case of just better safe than sorry.
