In 2005, massage therapy was projected to be a six- to eleven-billion US dollars industry buy the Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services. And I’m pretty sure that at least once in your life, you have sought the services of a massage therapist to ease some sort of pain or to just clear your minds and to relax and to enjoy a good massage. You might have even toyed with the idea of pursuing a career in the massage therapy field since, let’s face it, it is one of the more rewarding careers nowadays, since more or less, the average earning of a massage therapist is about $31,000 annually working for just about 15 hours per week according to the American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA). This makes being a massage therapist an attractive career to pursue since you can hold another job at the same time without it having to get in the way.

If you are planning to pursue a career as a massage therapist, before anything else, of course you need to have a massage therapy certification in order to carry out the job properly. A massage certification will also lend you the credibility that you need to have in order to attract clients or to have a decent employer. Below are the things that you should do in order for you to have a massage therapy certification:

1. Scout for massage therapy schools. Consider only those with the accreditations of professional and reputable associations. Also, check if they are regulated by the government.

2. Once you have checked out the possible massage therapy schools that you will be attending, choose one. Some things to consider in finalizing your pick would be the cost when you enroll, the location of the school, the accreditations it has, and the school’s reputation.

3. Make sure that you ace your classes. Nothing would be more attractive to prospect employers or clients than a dedicated student.

4. Once you have finally finished the massage therapy course, you should determine first what area you want to specialize in so as not to waste precious time being certified in massage therapy fields that you do not have any intention to specialize in.

5. Once you have determined the specific type of massage therapy that you want to specialize in, get the massage therapy certification needed so that you can, finally, practice your being a massage therapist.

To be able to get more details in getting your massage therapy certification, it will helpful to consult with the nearest massage therapy association nearest you.

No matter what line of job you are in, whether it be blue collared or white collared, experiencing fatigue is unavoidable. Laborers in factories who perform single and repetitive tasks, professors holding classes four hours on end, sales ladies catering to the whims of the mall patrons, executives on their desks making power decisions, cooks laboring in a busy kitchen, waiters and waitresses running to and fro taking care of customers’ orders, mothers cooking for their family and keeping the house in tip top shape – all of them experience the same type of fatigue brought about by the usual ordeals of their daily tasks.

Fatigue is considered to be a minor ailment like the common cold, but if it is not prevented, it can lead to major complications like neurological disorders, sleep disorders, cancer, anemia, leukemia, diabetes, eating disorders, heart diseases, muscular dystrophy, arthritis, chemical dependency, panic disorders, and a lot more. Experience it constantly could be fatal in the long run.

Different types of workplaces nowadays invest in excellent quality anti-fatigue mats since they can help reduce the fatigue brought about by your usual day-to-day routine. The benefits of anti-fatigue mats and its necessity almost everywhere have already been acknowledged. Anti-fatigue mats are being used in bus stations, canneries, factories, clinics, wineries, supermarkets, department stores, repair shops, warehouses, and a whole lot more.

Anti-fatigue mats are used just about anywhere and everywhere, especially if there is a requirement for workers to stand for a long period of time. This is because they are being used to help reduce foot weariness. They absorb shock which can be caused by constant standing or continuous walking. As a result of their nature to reduce fatigue and hence, everyday stress, they also make workers happier and more productive as a result. However, caution should be employed when using anti-fatigue mats since they can also cause tripping accidents because of their texture. Using cushioned shoes in the workplace can also be a possible solution to combating fatigue, and when combined with the use of anti-fatigue mats, they can prove to be more beneficial than just using one.

To sum it all up, using anti-fatigue mats are really beneficial anywhere. Caution should always be exercised, though, to avoid any accidents. It cannot really get rid of foot weariness, but when used with ergonomically-designed workplaces, they have been proven to work wonders. They reduce stress and fatigue, hence, they make workers happier and more productive.

Massage therapy has never been so important before, but during these trying and stressful times, a lot of massage therapy centers and spas offering massage therapy as one of their services are sprouting up like mushrooms. This is because people from all walks of life seek refuge in a good massage to combat stress and to feel rejuvenated after a hard day’s work or even to just relax and to think clearly. Because of this, the need for licensed or certified massage therapists are also rising up.

According to the data compiled by the Center for Medicare & Medical Services in 2004, massage therapy has been projected to be a six- to 11-billion dollars per annum industry. According to the American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA) in a study it compiled in 2005, more or less, there are around 300,000 massage school students and massage therapists in the United States and that between 2006 and 2007, about a quarter of adult Americans had a massage from a certified massage therapist in the last 12 months. The median salary of a massage therapist who has experiences from 1-19 years in the field range from 20 thousand dollars to about 42 thousand dollars. According to PayScale.com, a market leader in global online compensation data which has the world’s largest database of employee compensation profiles. According to AMTA as well, the average annual income for a massage therapist who provides 15 hours of massage per week was $31,500.

Based on the facts stated above, a massage therapist career is a very lucrative and long-time term one that people of any age can have. Learning what it takes to be a massage therapist from good massage therapy schools can give you the foundation you need if you are planning to become a massage therapist.

To date, there are around 300 massage therapy schools in the US alone. Massage therapy schools can equip an aspiring massage therapist the knowledge and skills needed in the more than 80 types of massage therapy existing today. Good massage therapy schools also help prepare an aspiring massage therapist for the National Certification Examination for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCETMB), the test required to be certified in the field of massage therapy. Good massage therapy schools also help aspirants determine their career goals. They also help students pay their tuition fees through grants and scholarships. They also should have the needed accreditations. Lastly, good massage therapy schools equip a future massage therapist with the knowledge and skills that they need to prosper in the field.

At some point or another everybody has had a hard time falling asleep and being able to stay asleep to get a good night’s sleep. This may be infrequent and could even stop when your stress level drops. However, you could be diagnosed with sleep disorders if your problem starts to be concerning, lasts longer then a month, and is making you not function properly.

Poor night’s rest, getting too much sleep, having trouble in maintaining a regular sleep pattern are considered to be sleep disorders. There are other variations of sleep disorders that include disturbances during sleep, for example, sleepwalking and nightmares. Most sleep disorders are linked to stress, psychological conflicts, unhealthy lifestyles, and/or medications.

Another common form of sleep disorder is insomnia. This is when a person has trouble falling asleep or they may not get enough sleep. When it is time for sleep people with insomnia worry about the circumstances of their life and give themselves a tense feeling. Some of the causes of insomnia are symptoms of other sleep disorders; for example, massive depression, bipolarism, and anxiety disorders.

People that awake frequently from nightmares are most times frightened and can suffer intense anxiety. Nightmares are triggered out of stressful situations, trauma, or emotional problems. Some nightmares can be linked to post traumatic stress. Whereas this is a disorder that has affected many soldiers that have been in live combat, it can also hit anyone who has experienced a trauma in their life.

The disorder known as “sleep terrors” is another type of sleep disorder. The person will awake very quickly, totally disorientated, and in total confusion, even screaming. It is something which they rarely remember, an occurrence not experienced by their sleeping partner!.

Sleepwalking is a sleep disorder that permits a person to carry out complex activities while in an unresponsive state. People have eaten, gone to the washroom, walked out the door and down the street, and some have even tried to drive.

You will not need telling this of course, but if you manage to get six to nine hours of sleep a night you are luckily free of a sleep disorder.

Our careers, marriages, even lives, can be ruined by sleeping disorders but there is a simple cure available. This involves no medication, rather it involves finding out the cause, or causes, of the disorder, and then working on permanently eradicating them. To discover how this can be done by literally anyone, simply follow the links below.

A question many have been asking lately is if stress can cause memory loss. The body reacts to deal with stress in many situations. Cortisol is a horomone that is released by the brain and it provides energy to your body to take action in our limbs and throughout our body.

Read about stress and if it can cause memory loss. Stress needs to be prevented at all costs.

Since the hippocampus is robbed of its energy in such conditions, there are high possibilities of creating new memories at this point of time. If the hippocampus is exposed in such a way for a long time, then there are chances of short-term memory loss. The functions of the brain are deterred and loss of memory occurs in such times. Repeated exposure of the hippocampus damages it, and this is one of the earliest causes of Alzheimer’s at a later stage.

Still wondering if can stress cause memory loss. It is important that you take this seriously in order to avoid irreparable damage to the brain. However, it is natural for all of us to forget things when we are in the middle of a lot of work. Too much pressure tends to make us forget a few things here and there. But stress related memory loss diseases include Alzheimer’s, dementia, and other related illnesses that cause trauma to the brain.

Losing memories can be associated with stress but is not always the case. But always try to keep your stress levels lower to maintain good health.

Knowing what to do to relieve stress can take the pressure off us in many different situations. Stress is something that we feel when we are anxious or afraid, either because we are in danger or because we fear a certain situation, such as worrying that a spouse may leave.

However, worrying never helped anything. You need to either accept things as they are or take action to change things.

Anxiety and stress can actually stop us from acting when we need to the most. It can cause you to be hesitant and indecisive, wasting time thinking about what could happen rather than making things happen. We have internal dialogues which are only a distraction from the task at hand.

A lot of us will do this over thinking of problems while under stress, believing that it is helpful to them. Most of the time, this is not the case at all. People will think of exactly how they can proceed and fail to take action, or be so committed to a plan that they will be inflexible in the face of changing circumstances with predictable results.

Most of the time when we are faced with a stressful situation, the best thing to do is to act confidently and work with the outcome to continue towards your goal.

However, most people need a little training to be able to do this. Conflict resolution and assertiveness training may be needed to overcome stressful situations, especially in situations where there is conflict or when stress stems from the expectations others may have of us.

Having a clear cut set of priorities is key here ? it?s important not to sweat the small stuff. All of us need to step back from the things in our lives which cause us stress and get a little perspective. This could be a hobby or anything else that you enjoy and keeps your entire life from being about your job, your relationship, etc.

A good way to defuse acute stress is to do some slow-moving exercise like tai chi or yoga. Mediation and breathing exercises can also be incredibly helpful. Even taking a walk can help to reduce your stress level.

Autogenic training, a method of relaxation which was devised specifically for handling stress consists of 15 minute visualization sessions, preferably done three times a day. You can buy CDs which teach you how to use this powerful relaxation technique.

Listening to relaxing music has also been proven to reduce stress. Choose instrumental music with a slow tempo and a relaxed feel. If you simply must have singing, try to pick something which won?t engage you emotionally, such as music sung in a language you do not speak.

Suffering from stress is not inevitable, even with the busy lives we lead in the modern world. We can deal with it and even enjoy the challenge. I hope this article has given you some ideas of what to do to relieve stress.

At the risk of sounding like a complete Big Sur hippie, I feel I have to make the case for something called zone therapy, otherwise known as reflexology. I know what youre thinking: James, you’ve done it again. Yes, perhaps I have. But so what? This ancient therapy does not require the use of any special crystals or ethereal pan flute music. All that’s required is a semi-open mind and your bare hands and feet.

It’s essentially a hand or foot massage, yes. But reflexology is more than that. Well, it kind of depends on the intentionality of your masseuse. A reflexologist is trained to correspond points on your hands and feet (and sometimes ears) to certain organs or functions of the body. For instance, the hollow of the foot is said to correspond to your stomach. Have a bad case of Tennis Elbow? Have that part of your foot rubbed.

I know this may all sound like poppycock, but even the esteemed journal, Neuroscience Letters, claims that there is indeed a neural link between the brain and the foot. Of course, I would say, how else are we able to walk? Thanks, I’ll be here all week! But seriously, folks, there is something to be said for this form of therapy. I know because it worked for me. My chronic headaches, which bordered on migraines, have abated since I started getting my hands rubbed.

Bizarre, sure. Slightly creepy, you bet. But it works for me. It could work for you. It’s like Tai Chi — some people swear they can feel the chi running through their bodies. Other people punch people like that in the stomach and laugh. It’s hard to say and I do sympathize with those of you who are creeped out by other people touching their hands and feet.

So, for the sake of forgoing the touch of another human, you could get yourself a foot massager. You can find models that are electric (and hence vibrating) or wooden (and do nothing but get mashed into your soft spots). The vibrating ones get the job done and even come with warm water jets and DVD players. I’m just kidding about the DVD players. Either way, it’s something that may work for some people out there, and if something works, why not give a try?

There are a variety of foot massager models out there. Find one that doesn’t frighten the daylights out of you and give it a go. My advice, start slow. Cranking an electric foot massager at full blast out of the box is just asking for trouble.

There is no one who finds their teenage years a stress free or easy time. Adolescent stress is common and can be linked to any number of different factors. There are the hormonal shifts which mark puberty, learning to deal with their developing minds, bodies and emotions and the pressure associated with realizing that they are growing up and starting to make choices about their lives. All of these things can cause an adolescent stress and anxiety.

All of the following situations or events are stressful for adolescents:

- parents separating

- moving

- beginning studies at a new school

- a death in the family

- conflict with peers, teachers or parents

- starting or ending boyfriend/girlfriend relationships

- having sex for the first time

- family illness (physical or mental), alcoholism or other troubles

- financial troubles within the family

- living in a dangerous neighborhood

- the physical and emotional changes caused by puberty

- pressure to succeed at school (from teachers, coaches, parents or oneself)

- low self esteem

Of course, all of these things could cause stress in adults too. Adolescents, however have less control over their lives and tend to cope with stress differently than do adults.

Every teenager experiences stress. They may show this by:

- becoming irritable or having mood swings

- anxiety and worrying

- withdrawal from other people

- using alcohol or drugs

- physical illness

Here are some things a person can do to relieve stress. Some of them are immediate, for use when you feel most anxious, angry or panicky. Others are long term techniques that will help your hormones and emotions to stabilize.

- watching or reading something humorous

- listening to relaxing music

- talk to a good friend or play with a pet

- engaging in a routine of regular exercise

- eat a healthy diet which is rich in fresh vegetables and fruits

- avoid stimulants and depressants (coffee, tea, cola, chocolate, sugar, tobacco, alcohol and drugs), particularly when experiencing stress

- learn deep breathing and other relaxation techniques

- practicing meditation or yoga

- learn to be assertive (to say how you feel or ask for what you want in a way that is not threatening to others)

- if you feel overwhelmed by a problem, try breaking it down into more manageable parts and tackle them one at a time

- stop negative thinking in its tracks and replace it with positive affirmations

- do not indulge in imagining all the bad things that might happen

If you’re experiencing a lot of stress and you are finding your quality of life or even your physical health negatively affected, you may benefit from stress management training. This training will teach you some of the techniques listed above and help you learn to reduce stress almost as soon as it arises.

It is important to remember that some degree of stress is unavoidable. It’s how you cope with the stress in your life that matters; adolescent stress can be managed.

You can manage the stress in your life by taking care of your mental, emotional and physical health. Stress and tension can be caused by problems in the family, problems at work, problems with money, all of these are complicated if you allow your health to be affected. The following tips will help you deal with stress no matter how it is caused.

Understand where your stress is coming from.

See if you can make changes in the areas of your life where you are feeling stress.

Find ways to relax such as massage, deep breathing, meditation, or yoga.

Exercise or other physical activity will help you deal with stress

Prioritize your tasks and list them. Completing this list and checking things off will give you a sense a satisfaction and reduce your stress.

Avoid sugar, fats, tobacco, caffeine, and alcohol to help your body and mind to cope with stress.

Make sure that you get enough sleep and rest.

Professional counselors and support groups will help if you have something bothering you. Your family and friends are also usually there to help you.

Find someone who needs your help. Helping others can give you a sense of purpose.

It is important to relax by reading a book or listening to music. Time spent with a hobby you enjoy is a great stress reliever.

Anger can be very stressful. Examine the causes and take action to remove them.

A vacation from your regular life, even if only for a weekend, will help you deal with stress.

Try not to do too much. Take things one step at a time.

Remember that nobody is perfect.

Remember that being judgemental is likely to do you more harm than the people you are judging

Always try to see the amusing side of any situation. Laughter is the best medicine.

When your body is under stress the tension will often accumulate in your neck and jaw. Take a few minutes to gently and slowly move your head from one side to the other and then from front to back, moving in a slow circle.

Practice realistic goal setting using the SMART approach, set small and realistic goals to accomplish the tasks you have to do and reduce your stress. Try setting a goal using the SMART method:

SPECIFIC: Choose one little goal and write it down.

MEASURABLE: Is there a way to know when it is completed?

ACHIEVABLE: Is it realistic? If not, make it smaller.

REWARDED: What will you give yourself when you have finished?

TIME-LIMITED: Can you set an achievable deadline?

The most effective stress reliever for your body is laughter. Learn to laugh or turn to funny movies or tv shows to provide some relief from stress. Be ready to use laughter for stress management.

Cope with stress by going for a walk. If the stress is at work, go for a walk at lunchtime. Walking will give you time to look at the situation that is causing you a problem. Any other exercise will also help with stress relief.
