How to Eliminate Credit Card Debt

If you’re really just overwhelmed by your current level of personal debt, you’re in good company. Credit card debt really has become a growing issue for a huge number of people lately, with balances growing ever bigger and minimum payments ballooning to stratospheric levels. But the truth of the matter is, you absolutely can reduce your overall debt by following a few very basic and easy to understand strategies:

1. Don’t Ever Pay a Late Charge

2. Have Your Interest Rate Lowered

Tell them you can get or have been offered a lower rate, and ask them to match that rate. If they refuse, all you have lost is a phone call. If your request is reasonable, there is quite a decent chance your bank will drop your rate to a more manageable level.

3. Obtain a Brand New Credit Card

In the instance that your bank won’t budge on your interest rate, just search for a better rate at another credit card company and switch your remaining balance to that account. There are plenty of banks out there eager to accept balance transfers. Furthermore, even if you have made some late payments, thus causing your rates to rise, the odds are your credit rating hasn’t been affected. Banks usually alert credit bureaus when payments are significantly late (by like 30-60 days). As long as your credit report remains clean, you shouldn’t have trouble applying for a lower rate credit card and therefore saving a lot of money.
