How to Determine Cost in Pay per Click Advertising

When we surf the internet, it is common to see advertisements of businesses hosted by websites. They often appear as boxed text advertisements, or colorful banners. Oftentimes, when search for something on the web, ads appear on top of the search results list or at the right hand side of the web page.

The placement of ads in a website is a way of compensating whatever the owner has spent in making his website available for the users.

There are a number of ways to earn from advertisements in the internet and one of these is through pay per click. As the term suggests, the website owner hosting the advertisement earns every time the advertisement is clicked.

In pay per click advertising, the website owner will be paid only if there are users that click the posted ad. On the other hand, the advertiser’s cost will be dependent on the number of clicks of his ad.

For advertisers, there are two tools to determine the cost per click involved in pay per click marketing.

The first tool is the flat-rate tool and the second tool is the bid-tool. It is easy to understand the flat-rate pay per click advertising. In this set-up, there is an understanding between the site owner and the advertiser on the cost/earning that will be realized for every click that the user will make.

Advertisers often have a listing of their rates based on the page of the website their ads are shown. These fixed rates are based on the relevance of the site or webpage to his business, the resources of the site and the capability of the site to attract traffic from the web.

Secondly, cost per click is determined through bidding. In this method, the publisher or the website owner will ask interested advertisers to participate in a bidding to advertise in on one spot of the website or web page.

In this kind of tool used in pay per click marketing, each of the interested advertisers will note how much they are willing to pay for that spot for every click to be made by the users.
