Read how to get targeted website traffic with these 5 tips I tested for you

My job is quite stressful. It doesn’t help when my boss Jim is always telling me to reach new targets. Anyway, I spent 4 months researching ways to drive more free targeted traffic to his website for him.

I basically split my research into paid and free forms of targeted advertising. Secretly I also wanted to learn what to do to help boost my own websites that I have been developing part time in the evenings.

1. Advertising using pay per click (or PPC). I struggled to make this profitable as there is quite a lot to learn. It is recommended but not as a first try item. It is very targeted and a great source of traffic however.

2. Solo advertising. This involves finding a newsletter or list or ezine based on what you want to promote. I personally made some profits with this, but it was all down to having a really strong headline that almost shocked the reader into reading further into the ad. I never lost on this, so I feel it is highly recommended as a paid source of targeted traffic.

3. Using autosurfs to advertise – a complete waste of time based on my tests. Because this type of advertising just constantly rotates adverts, there is no inclination for you to even be in front of your computer while racking up credits for others to view your site. The trouble is that no-one else is watching either.

4. Sending out ads to millions of websites – beware of these offers – 99% of them are really bad scam sites just out for your money and most of the people you are submitting to never even requested to be on that service – beware as you could lose your internet accounts!

5. Traffic exchanges. I like these because they are better than autosurfs and they are totally free too. At least the members are actually watching your ads, and the real beauty is that with some of these websites you can take advantage of really good free geo-targeting. This means you can target people in certain countries. Nice touch – only needs some daily time and effort to actually produce measured responses. How’s that for free targeted traffic?

That is my 4 month investigation into online advertising. I conclude that you should take the free route first and use some great traffic exchanges first, secondly try some low cost targeted solo ad advertising in ezines, and finally learn all you can about pay per click advertising.

Don’t lose money and go off and try to reinvent things yourself. I have done the actual testing and the ideas above are my results.
