When playing soccer there are many factors involved in order to keep fit, soccer fitness is very hard to determine as there are many factors that have to be included. Not only does a soccer player need to have the skill and the speed to be able to play but they must also have stamina, strength and suppleness.
Every player has a different role when playing soccer and some require different skills to others although all players are required to have skill, specifity and stamina. These can be considered as the most important factors that a player must have in order to play soccer. To achieve the stamina needed when playing soccer, every player must do aerobics and anaerobic.
Aerobic fitness determines the level at which you can intake and use your oxygen to perform an activity. Aerobic activities are activities like running, where you can continue the exercise without getting tired too quickly. You work at a rate which means you don’t get completely fatigued or out of breath. You will be able to run a lot further before getting out of breath.
Anaerobic exercises helps a player control their level of fatigue after short bursts of energy for example the energy used in a sprint that can make the player feel instantly tired and with loss of breath. Practicing this exercise will help the player to control the amount of breath used with instant bursts of energy and lower the feeling of tiredness.
Soccer players need to practice a mixture of both aerobic and anaerobic exercises due to the type of game they play. As there are a lot of short bursts of energy and a lot of ground to cover running, the player must learn to control his breathing to be able to stay fit and practice soccer. It does depend what role the player has on the field but either way a necessary amount of these exercises are imperative to be able to stay fit.
To be able to stay fit, nutrition also plays a very important role in the program. A full medical examination should take place to determine what type of diet is better for the player. Every diet must include a high level of carbohydrates, especially in the pre match meal. Players are also advised to eat a snack with protein in it whilst playing the match itself.
The player must also remain very well hydrated during a match so it is recommended to drink sport drinks that have a high glucose level as they are very simple to digest and therefore do not cause cramps. Soft drinks and caffeine should try to be avoided in a soccer player’s diet as they are a lot harder to digest and cause dehydration due to the caffeine and the bubbles in the soft drinks.
Any professional soccer player must maintain a very healthy life packed full of fitness routines, exercise regimens and a healthy diet with a high level of fluids, fats, proteins and carbohydrates that will help them to have the necessary hydration and energy needed to play soccer.
