The Law of Attraction: Is it real?

Whether youve seen the movie the Secret, or youve just been reviewing coaching and mentoring programs recently, chances are that you have already heard of the Law of Attraction. It basically states that if you know exactly what you want, you ask the Universe for it, behave as though it is on the way, and then be open to receiving it, you can get whatever you want.

Okay, so what is the Law of Attraction, again? Its the idea that if you really want something, ask the universe to give it to you, take consistent action to achieve this want, and are open to receiving it when it comes, you will be able to have and accomplish anything that you may desire.

Im sorry; I just cant completely believe that just for asking the Universe for something and behaving like it is on the way is going to make anything happen, unless of course its by coincidence. However, with that being said, I think that the Law of Attraction still works. Huh?…I mean to say of course, that the Law of Attraction will make you successful not because the laws of physics say it will, but because by following its teachings, you are basically doing what the worlds most successful folks have been doing for years: setting a clear goal for what they want, and being confident that they can get it.

Think about it. If you are going to ask the Universe for what you want, you have to know exactly what that something is. It cant be vague, like happiness or success, but a specific, tangible goal. And making a goal and sticking to it is what pretty much every coaching and mentoring program on the planet tells you to do first. Theres nothing supernatural or magic about it, its just a good idea for attaining success.

The next, and for some, the hardest, step of the Law of Attraction, is to take tangible action. This goes without saying if you are trying to achieve a goal, right? The logistics behind it working for the Law of Attraction go like this: if you REALLY want something, the only way to actually prove it is to take action towards making it happen. If you say you want something but dont take steps to get it, then it is just an idle whim.

So, the last part is acceptance. Some people say that this is the most important part of the Law of Attraction. It basically means that you have to be able to recognize when the world is giving you what you asked of it, because your desires dont always come in the exact same form that we imagined. What this means to non-believers? It means that the most important skill is opportunity recognition. Every day, hundreds of great opportunities might pass you by if you dont recognize them for what they are.

The prophecies that we make for ourselves are self-fulfilling not because of the mysteries of the universe, but because we, ultimately, are the ones that make our own destinies. I can want something to work out for me, but if I dont believe that it will, how can it?

Self-belief is self sufficiency. Every independently successful person in the world believes in themselves, and for good reason, but chances are they believed in themselves before they were successful, and that fact by itself led to their success. The question is, does the Law of Attraction always get what you want and expect, or, ultimately, is it you?
