What are Type II Diabetes Treatments?

Diabetes is being diagnosed today in America at alarming rates. Some say diabetes is diagnosed at even epidemic proportions. Unfortunately many American’s do not even know that they are the ones in peril. You may already have it or are at serious risk of getting it. Adult onset diabetes or Type II Diabetes should be avoided or at the very least postponed for those with a predisposition to diabetes. Managing diabetes and preventing it is the goal.

To diagnose diabetes a physician relies on the outcome of specific glucose blood tests. They are looking for a higher than normal blood sugar levels after not eating for 12 hours. Consistently high levels like 126/140 mg/dl mean the person is a diabetic or pre-diabetic. Those without diabetes have levels that measure from 70 to 110 mg/dl consistently.

Just what causes Type II diabetes you might ask. Type II occurs generally in older persons who are obese (but not always) and do not take physical care of themselves. They may also have inherited a predisposition for the disease. Their fasting blood sugar glucose levels are constantly over the accepted limits which are determined by their doctors.

Taking proactive steps like lifestyle changes like adding regular exercise and controlling diet can be very beneficial in controlling diabetes or pre diabetes. The old and tired phrase of getting 20 minutes of exercise a day still holds true. Your focus should be to control your blood sugar to prevent this chronic and life altering disease.

Stay informed! Visit your doctor regularly and always request a fasting blood test. Also your local pharmacist can help keep you knowledgeable about the latest and greatest products and services. Regular blood tests in a clinical situation are recommended, as well as some of the hand held home testing devices offered today. From time to time some community centers, drug stores or grocery stores offer blood glucose level tests for free.

Weight loss surgery such as Gastric Bypass or GBS has been known to help normalize blood sugar in obese patients. This new development is too astounding to just overlook. It has been reported that after surgery 80 percent of patients experience normal blood sugar levels.

Look into a homeopathic approach to diabetes by visiting your health food stores or pharmacists. Adding vitamins or supplements can make a difference. As always, consult you doctor before trying anything non medical.

Controlling diabetes can be a simple as taking your medication along with a walk each day. Educate yourself on ways to fit a healthy lifestyle into you life. You want to avoid any diabetes or diabetes related complication.
